What do you mean by SIMPLE?
There’s a reason I use the acronym SIMPLE, and it’s not to downplay what mums do when they give birth! Birth is a big thing. You are bringing your baby (or babies) into the world after months of growing them and caring for them. So firstly, go you! You have been amazing!
When it comes to hypnobirthing, and simply birthing, your baby, having a SIMPLE mindset is going to make a huge difference. I’m hoping I can help mums make birth SIMPLE, one at a time - this way their births can have the potential to be relaxing, calm, and even enjoyable!
The SIMPLE acronym encapsulating the key principles that make this approach so transformative. Let's explore each letter of the acronym and unravel the beauty behind the simplicity.
S - Self Hypnosis:
The first pillar of hypnobirthing is self-hypnosis. No… not waving a watch in front of your eyes and forcing you to do something you don’t want to. But by tapping into our Alpha brain wave state, we enter a peaceful, calm, and meditative state—the ideal mental space for giving birth. It's like stepping into a serene chill-out room within ourselves, where relaxation and focus intertwine!
I - Intuition:
I encourage you to be intuitively aware and deeply connected to your body throughout the birthing process. While medical professionals may provide information, and we absolutely need to trust and work with them to deliver our babies safely, it is the mother who truly feels and experiences birth. By listening, responding, and believing in your birthing body, you can empower yourself and trust your body to guide you through each step of the journey.
M - Mindfulness:
Mindfulness plays a crucial role in hypnobirthing - emphasising purposeful awareness of the body during birth. By cultivating a mindful mindset, you can breathe deeply, ensuring an ample supply of oxygen, which fuels the uterus and supports the birthing process. Remaining relaxed and energized sets the stage for an ideal birthing state!
P - Preparation:
Mental preparation is key to a positive birthing experience. I help mothers to think through their birth preferences, enabling them to feel in control and empowered. We no longer need to solely rely on doctors' instructions. A SIMPLE birth will empower you to create an environment and experience that fosters calmness and relaxation. Choosing the ideal birthing location, having comforting items on hand, and exploring different birthing positions all contribute to a sense of preparedness.

This is a big one for me (my husband was amazing during my birth!) Birth partners, birth protectors, whatever you would like to call them, play an integral role in the hypnobirthing journey. Equipped with knowledge and understanding, they become the steadfast supporters of you during birth. By comprehending your needs and desires, birth partners can shield you from any distractions or factors that might pull you out of your state of calm and relaxation. Their loyalty ensures that you can solely focus on birthing your baby, free from unnecessary worries or disruptions.
E - Endorphins:
Finally, let's talk about endorphins—the body's natural painkillers. The culmination of all the previous principles of hypnobirthing promotes a mental state where endorphins flow freely. By staying relaxed, trusting the process, and feeling empowered, you, YES YOU, can stimulate the production of these wonderful hormones.
